Who are the street lit authors?
In cooperation with Front Steps and the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (the ARCH), Street Lit offers free creative writing workshops every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Conference Room A. We read and discuss our work, how to improve on our natural abilities, and help each other find our own best expression on the page. And we have snacks!
The folks at the Street Lit table know what life is like on the street--we're either living it now, or have in the past. We have visitors on a regular basis: helpers & friends of the group, and writing professors from ACC and UT sit in, too. There is no "teacher," per se, I consider myself a facilitator, and my main goal is just to keep us all writing. In other words, I make sure the coffee gets brewed and the snacks are set out on time. (I also cuss too much, interrupt constantly, and insist on regular smoke breaks. )
